BYU Students Irradiate FPGA

Students traveled to Texas A&M University's Cyclotron twice in 2011 to perform radiation testing on FPGAs. This work will help industry members who use FPGAs in space applications better understand radiation effects on FPGAs and how to mitigate against them.

Open Source FPGA CAD Tool RapidSmith Released

RapidSmith is a research-based FPGA CAD tool written in Java for modern Xilinx FPGAs. Based on XDL, its objective is to serve as a rapid prototyping platform for research ideas and algorithms relating to low level FPGA CAD tools.

IP-XACT Meta-Data Extensions Released

CHREC XML is a set of extensions to the IP description meta-data standard IP-XACT which enables automatic synthesis of interfaces for homogeneous sychronous dataflow systems. It includes extensions for parameters, high-level data types, and H-SDF interfaces.

About Us

We are interested in the research of high-performance systems that are based on FPGAs and FPGA-like devices. Research areas that are of current interest include: run-time reconfiguration, hybrid FPGA architecture, DSPs and FPGAs, and application-specific processors. The lab has a strong applications focus and has developed applications, demonstrations, and tutorials for many of the currently available FPGA platforms.
